University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Sarah Adewumi

Year in School: Junior
Major/Minor: Aviation Management
Expected Graduation: 2020

Extracurricular Activities:
Since my first year at my beloved University of Maryland Eastern Shore, I have been involved in numerous extracurricular activities including several organizations on campus. Amongst these organizations is Women of Distinction, UMES Roundtable, and My Sister's Keeper. I am also a NCAA Division 1 Student Athlete, being the #1 Singles and Doubles player on the Women's Tennis Team. In my surrounding communities, I am also an active member of both MANRRS: Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences, and the AIAA: American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Amongst these organizations, I am a frequent advocate for the AIAA, and as a Women in STEM, I believe that it is of extreme importance to always fight for minorities, whether we are apart of these communities or not. Each and every one of my extracurriculars allow me to stay balanced and have shaped me into the young woman that I am today.

Career Goals:
I aspire to work in an Aviation related corporation, in a managerial position per my concentration in Management. I knew that I wanted to take an entrepreneurial path once I realized my growth and aptitude for management and entrepreneurship. Using these skills that I have developed over the years through various experiences, I know that I wanted pursue my concentration in Management to fuel my professional goals.

What is your most memorable contribution as a Campus Queen?:
My most memorable experience so far as a Campus Queen has most definitely been connecting with my universitys new students, mostly comprised of Freshmen and Transfer Students. I was able to host my first event which was a panel discussion with the young women on campus, which turned into a heartfelt open discussion. The emotional and intellectual breakthroughs that I had witnessed in the young women was a reward in itself. Simply hearing how my advice and personal stories made an impact, truly reminded me of why I had wanted to become a Campus Queen, and the feeling was incomparable.
