You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.

Tis’ the season to be focused on throwing out the old and bringing in the new!

Each year as we prepare for the coming of a new year, young professionals around the world begin to create lists of things that they resolve to do to prepare themselves for what’s next in their lives. And while resolutions are great in theory, this year I encourage you to take them a step further and make them actionable goals for yourself. Create an ambitious and yet realistic list of things that you want to work on in 2015. And then create an action plan that tracks and keeps you accountable for reaching those goals. Remember incremental gains are wins too!

1. I Will Maintain an Up-to-Date and Relevant Resume:

Your resume should be current, include qualitative and quantitative goals and accomplishments in each of the positions you’ve held, be copyedited, and reflect the most relative professional experiences that you’ve had to date (so…if you’re in your 30s…drop the undergrad work study position off of your resume…okay).

2. I Will Create/Maintain an Up-to-Date LinkedIn Profile:

LinkedIn is truly a great and easy way to build your professional network and to build your professional presence. A great LinkedIn profile includes a professional headshot (leave your selfies for Instagram and friends), have a thoughtful headline and summary statement, and include all of your professional and educational experience.
