Today, July 8, The Meteor, a collective of activists, journalists, and creators using the arts to "advance the freedom and dignity of all women," will celebrate the launch of their 2021 audio special in collaboration with Audible, In Love and Struggle: A Black Woman Grows In America. During the free virtual event attendees will get a sneak preview of the special, which showcases "11 women ranging in age from 17 to 90, as they share powerful stories about love, work, microaggressions, motherhood, joy, justice and more."
Hosted by podcaster Brittany Luse, the live show will feature several of the women who appear in the audio special, including Rebecca Carroll, Kamilah Forbes, Drew Dixon, Lynn Nottage, Pearl Cleage, Treasure Brooks, Jasmine Mans, and CC Paschal.
The first iteration of In Love and Struggle was released in 2020 "with the shared goal of producing content focused on the lived experiences of Black women in America through storytelling, monologues, music, and comedy," according to a press release obtained by EBONY. This year, the second collaboration in the series, the Meteor continues with the same mission as they explore what it means "to live in your skin as a Black woman in 2021."
