Chance the Rapper is setting the record straight and has apologized for tweets that defended Kanye West and came across as pro-President Donald Trump.

On Friday, Chance posted a lengthy statement on Twitter about his comments following West’s Twitter rants in which he said he supported Trump.

“Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about my city and my loved ones,” he said. “Kanye West is not just a mentor or big homie to me. He’s my family.”

“Unfortunately, my attempt to support Kanye is being used to discredit my brothers and sisters in the movement and I can’t sit by and let that happen either,” Chance said. “I’d never support anyone who had made a career out of hatred, racism and discrimination.”

On Wednesday, the Coloring Book rapper tweeted that Black people don’t have to align themselves with the Democratic Party.

Following it up that the next president will be an Independent.

West posted pictures of himself wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and said that Trump was his “brother” and that he has “love” for him.
