Charlamagne tha God explained reaching out to his estranged mentor Wendy Williams after news of her divorce from Kevin Hunter was made public.

During Wednesday's episode of The Wendy Williams Show, the host revealed she got an unexpected call from the South Carolina native. The pair lost touch nearly a decade ago, so the call was shocking to many, including Charlamagne's Breakfast Club co-hosts Angela Yee and DJ Envy.

"For me, someone who used to be friends with Wendy, work with Wendy and having a front row seat to a lot of the abuse I saw her endure, I'm just happy she's finally freeing herself," the Black Privilege author said.

According to Yee, Williams told her studio audience that she and Charlamagne were on the phone for four hours. Envy quickly asked what the two media stars talked about.

"We did speak on the phone for a very long time," Charlamagne responded. "It was good for us to clear the air on a lot of things. "

Last month, the radio and television personality told Page Six his relationship with Williams was strained over a 2009 incident involving Hunter and his alleged mistress.

"I wish her the best. She has a lot of healing to do, and I'm all about healing and letting go of toxic people in your life," Charlamagne told his co-hosts. "I think that when you let go of toxic people in your life that's a big step in loving yourself and I hope [Wendy] keeps going."
