Michaela Coel had critics and audiences cracking up with her quirky yet relatable comedy in the Netflix hit Chewing Gum, and now the funny lady is expanding her talents.

The British actress scored the leading role in Been So Long, a London-set musical based off of the critically acclaimed stage play by Che Walker.

The musical is a modern-day love story set on the street of Camden and will include a diverse mix of funk, R&B, Nu Soul, UK dance and cinematic orchestration. Another cool addition to the production is that it will feature selections from up and coming guest producers.

Coel, who won a BAFTA award for her portrayal of “Tracey” in Chewing Gum, will lead the principle cast as Simone, “a young, spirited, single minded mum with the soul of a poet.”
