A protest erupted in Chicago on Saturday after a cop shot a Black man earlier in the day, HuffPost reports.

A Chicago-based activist organization, Black Youth Project 100, identified Harith “Snoop” Augustus as the victim of the deadly police shooting. The group described him as a barber and a father.

Anthony Guglielmi, the Chicago Police Department’s chief communication officer, wrote on Twitter that cops saw Augustus “exhibiting characteristics of an armed person.” Adding that “officers go to question him when a confrontation ensues and he is shot. The man was fatally wounded. A weapon recovered on scene.”

Guglielmi also shared body camera footage of the incident between Augustus and police.

Police Chief Fred Waller said in a press conference on Saturday, per HuffPost, that officers “saw a subject that they thought might have been armed around his waistband,” and when they approached him he became aggressive by “flailing and swinging” at them.

Witnesses told the Chicago Sun-Times that Augustus was shot by a female officer who “was immediately put in a squad car and taken away from the scene.”

The incident between Augustus and law enforcement, which took place in Chicago’s South Side neighborhood, drew scrutiny from protestors who met in the area around the shooting and screamed at cops over what happened.

Nader Issa, a reporter for the Sun-Times, captured a clash between protestors and law enforcement on Saturday.

“An argument started and officers hit protesters with batons, and protesters returned punches,” he tweeted.

Four officers have been put on administrative duty and an investigation over the shooting is taking place by Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability, per Chicago’s Fox 32.

Law enforcement officials said that four protestors were arrested Saturday and that a few officers were injured during the protests, according to HuffPost.
