A situation in one New York City police precinct is starting to look like an episode of Love & Hip Hop, leading the NYPD to seize guns from four officers.
The New York Post reports Sgt. Kandou Worley, 40, and Officer Stephanie Gallardo, 33, had a fling last year after they were both assigned to the department’s Strategic Response Group (SRG). Soon after, Worley’s live-in girlfriend, Tyeis Coppin, a union delegate in the 32nd precinct, found incriminating photos of the two on his cellphone.
In an attempt to get back at them, Coppin posted the photos to an Instagram account under the username “mike_lowry_78,” a reference to Will Smith’s playboy character in Bad Boys. Captions included, “I told my girl I loved her 10 mins b4 I f*cked this one,” and “She’s someone’s wife, she’s not my girl tho. I have one and this is not her!!!!”
On Dec. 26, Worley, who was reportedly Gallardo’s superior, told her that photos of them were online, and the NYPD discovered them two days later.
Gallardo was also attached, married to fellow SRG cop Cristian Gallardo, 28. She claims the two were separated at the time of the fling, but they still lived together and were raising their 20-month-old daughter together. Gallardo also claimed “that with the exception of kissing while together off-duty on a number of occasions, the relationship [with Worley] was not intimate.”
A total of nine handguns were seized from all four officers under a section of the Patrol Guide that permits impounding firearms in cases where “stress as a result of family or other situations” could result in bodily harm.
Lt. John Grimpel clarified that the NYPD Patrol Guide doesn’t prohibit relationships between cops — even involving a superior and a subordinate — “except if you’re a police supervisor in the police academy.”
