If you’re a Blerd — meaning a Blerd in the true, hip-hop culture sense of the word — you were more than stoked when Luke Cage hit Netflix, because there was nothing that wasn’t bangin’ about that show. It found a way to tie nicely into the Marvel universe (they even mentioned Frank Castle in one episode, for goodness sake).

But Cage’s series was just one of several the comic book publisher put out, including Daredevil, and Iron Fist, and now we know where they were going with it. Apparently this has all been buildup for a new Defenders series that in its trailer seems like everything about it will be bomb diggity (was that a ’90s term that just slipped out?)

But again, that could just be Blerd hyperexcitement spilling over because in the clip Luke Cage once again knocks over a lot of stuff and his counterpart Danny Rand (et. al. the Immortal Iron Fist) punches things with his glowing hand. And of course, Matthew Murdock, who is probably just as powerful as a blind attorney as he is as Daredevil.  Also on the team is Jessica Jones, a superhuman private investigator, who might have been Spider Woman, but nah.

Anyway, the rumored nemeses the foursome will face include the Hand, Elektra, who has been brought back from the dead, and Sigourney Weaver, who stars as a mystery character named “Alexandra.” Plus, Misty Knight is back, too. Yeah. Misty.

It’s important to note that this doesn’t exactly stick to original comic book canon unlike the Avengers, film series. The original Defenders were founded in 1971 by Doctor Strange, the Hulk and the Sub-Mariner. Luke Cage didn’t join until 1974. Iron Fist only made brief appearances over the years. Daredevil and Jones were never members.

But if you can throw all that to the side, then you’ll dig what could well be Marvel’s most explosive, non-mutant or Tesseract-related fiction yet.
