Michael B. Jordan is looking to up the ante in his directorial debut for Creed III—and his next opponent appears to be none other than rising superstar Jonathan Majors.

According to Deadline, which broke the news, the Lovecraft Country leading man is in negotiations to face off against Jordan’s Adonis Creed character for the third entry in the Rocky spin-off franchise. While specific details about Majors’ role aren’t available just yet, the way the past two films have gone lead many to believe he will be Jordan’s next opponent in the ring.

The Mischa Green-created series has boosted the profile of Majors, who already made cinephiles geek out after his role in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and now he’s hot and in-demand. Up next for him is as the latest Marvel big baddie in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania as Kang the Conqueror. There is rumor of talks of his return for the second season of Lovecraft Country, although that news is going to be odd to read given how that series ended. But there’s no doubt that the addition of Jonathan to an already stacked cast with Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad is highly appreciated.

As mentioned above, the third entry in the Creed series is going to mark the directorial debut of Michael B. Jordan. Plus, his mentor, Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone, will not be back to reprise his famous pugilist character. Jordan also added: “I think that Sly let it be known that he wasn’t coming back for this one but I think, you know, his essence and his spirit... there’s always going to be a little bit of Rocky within Adonis. But this is a Creed franchise, and we really want to build this story and this world around him moving forward. So, it’s always respect and always a shit-ton of love for what he’s built, but we really want to push and navigate Adonis forward and the family that he created.”
