We are in turbulent times. There is no denying that. After all, a reality show/marketing beast is the leader of the Free World and his army came equipped with divisive intent toward a lot of people.

The nation is upset and now, more than ever, we’re seeing folks take to public platforms, rallying and creating online protest to make sure their voices are heard. The fight is toward change and justice.

Amid the division and controversy that is the current political climate, Donnie McClurkin, pastor of Perfecting Faith Church is advising Christians to stop marching and turn their energies toward having faith.

“The protests do nothing but rile [people] up. It causes people’s anger to rise up and it gives a false sense of involvement,” Pastor McClurkin said on the syndicated radio show Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell . “The true sense of involvement is at the voting booth.”

Umm…Dr. King was a Reverend and stood his ground when it came to protesting injustice and racial discrimination. Protests are supposed to get people riled up and the follow through needs to be a plan of action, true. But to say that it gives a false hope of improvement. Let’s take a look at history shall we? Protesting sparked change within the civil rights movement – we are no longer forced to sit at the back of the bus, or drink and eat from designated places. We’ve come a long way with an even longer way to go.

Further in his rhetoric, Pastor McClurkin stated that Christians should deal with Trump’s presidency with “prayer instead of protest.” He also noted that he did not vote for Trump due to his racism, lack of policy and misogynistic ideals.”

Even with McClurkin realizing the ways and beliefs of Trump, how could he not expect people to feel a certain way and express it? This doesn’t mean that prayer becomes neglected.

“Now is our time to pray for him. This is the job of the church,” he said. “Let the world protest but the job of the church now is to go into prayer and pray that, number one, he succeeds, because if he fails, we have to deal with the consequences as a nation.”

Erica Campbell, who’s sister, Tina sent out a statement announcing her support of Trump, shared her disagreement with McClurkin’s ideology, acknowledging that protest stops progress and captures the attention of the necessary people.

“It makes the police have to respond and they have to spend money, they have to clear the streets and they have to organize. So it makes them pay a little more attention.”

As a Christian, you should not make the excuse of trying to put it all on God. Come back to reality. M’kay.
