In the now minted classic music video, “God’s Plan,” Drake showed that he really is about making sure that people actualize their dreams by presenting opportunities for young students and families in Florida. The Karena Evans-directed visual also introduced us to one young woman who was impassioned to follow her goal of higher education. On Wednesday, May 12, Destiny James revealed on Instagram that she will soon be graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a master’s degree in Public Health in Health Behavior after receiving a $50,000 scholarship from the Canadian rapper.

“Mama, I mastered it. Daddy, I did it,” James wrote. “[Four] days until I am officially [an] UNC Alum.”

Almost as if ordained by the Creator above, Drake hopped in the post’s comments to offer his personal congratulations. “LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO DES,” the chart-topping MC wrote. He later took to his Instagram Story to post a throwback picture of himself and James from the music video along with a string of celebratory emojis.

James was one of several people who received money and favor in Drake’s “God’s Plan” video, which went viral because of his generosity. In the clip that features James, Drake presented her with a $50,000 scholarship meant to assist her in completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Miami.

In a post via The Shade Room, James obtained her degree from the university in 2019 and, later that year, would enroll at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.

“Public health has been a passion of mine since 2016 when my dad passed from stage 4 lung cancer,” she told TSR. “Obtaining this degree is something I will always be proud of! The obstacles I was able to overcome fueled my fire and I am so proud to say I am now a graduate of the #1 ranked public school for public health in the country.”

In related good news, the 6ix God recently celebrated his own honor as Billboard named him “Artist of the Decade,” which encouraged Drake to write, “JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!” on social media.

There is still no word for when the rapper’s next album, Certified Lover Boy, is set for release. But all congratulations to Destiny James for her wonderful accomplishment.
