DOJ Defends Teens in Legal Battle Against School District Over Locs

The Department of Justice filed a statement of interest Friday in a case involving two male students—D'Andre Arnold and Kaden Bradford—who say that their school did not allow them to attend class because they refused to cut their locs. “The United States has a significant interest in ensuring that all students can participate in an educational environment free of unlawful discrimination and in the proper application of the Equal Protection Clause, Title IX, and Title VI,” the DOJ explained in the statement of interest.
