Washington State Requires All Teachers, School Staff to Be Vaccinated

Wednesday, Governor Jay Inslee announced that the state of Washington will require all teachers and school staff to be vaccinated for the upcoming school year. The mandate states that as a "condition of employment," all people working in educational facilities should be vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 18. The state also issued a school-wide mask mandate – regardless of vaccination status. "It has been a long pandemic, and our students and teachers have borne their own unique burdens throughout,” Inslee said in a statement. “This virus is increasingly impacting young people, and those under the age of 12 still can’t get the vaccine for themselves. We won’t gamble with the health of our children, our educators, and school staff, nor the health of the communities they serve.”
