St. Sabina Church, in conjunction with the City of Chicago, will a host a “Gun Buy Back” day this Saturday.

The event will take place at the church and anyone who turns in a gun will receive a $100 gift card. Anyone who turns in a BB gun, air gun or replica gun will receive a $10 gift card.

“A reduction in firearms on the streets will bring about a reduction in firearms crimes,” said Rev. Michael Pfleger in a statement sent to dnainfo. “Our city has been ravaged by gun violence and we must do something to change that.”

Just yesterday, the city saw seven shooting deaths in its South Shore neighborhood in three separate incidents within a four-block radius, police said.

The first shooting took place just after noon Thursday. Police received a call about a woman found dead in her home. She suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was identified as 26-year-old Patrice Calvin.

Nearly four hours later, four men were murdered in a shooting at a local fast food restaurant. 20-year-old Dillion Jackson, along with his 19-year-old brother, Raheem, were among those killed while visiting their mother at the establishment where she works. A man entered the restaurant and fatally wounded 28-year-old Emmanuel Stokes and an unidentified man. He then turned his gun on the two brothers, fatally wounding them outside of the restaurant. One died on the spot.

Officials will receive the weapons with no questions asked.

The event will also provide teens with the opportunity to sign up for summer jobs and for adults to sign up for classes that will lead to them obtaining their GED. Information regarding employment programs and other activities at The Saint Sabina Ark Youth Center will also be provided at the event.

Chicago’s “Gun Buy Back” event will take place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Sabina Church, 1210 W. 78th Place.
