A hotel in Oregon fired two of its employees after they called the cops and kicked out a Black man who was talking on his phone in its lobby, reports the Associated Press.
In a tweet on Saturday, Portland’s DoubleTree by Hilton hotel said it had “terminated the employment of the two men involved” for actions that “were inconsistent with our standards & values.”

Jermaine Massey said the employees racially profiled him after a security guard called the cops on him while he was on his phone Dec 22. Massey, who was staying at the hotel, and his attorney said they would pursue legal action against DoubleTree, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting.
Massey posted a video on social media showing his interaction with two of the employees, one of them a security guard, and a police officer. The guard reportedly told Massey that if he could not provide a room number, he would have to leave.

“We sincerely apologize to Mr. Massey for his treatment this past weekend, and deeply regret the experience he endured,” tweeted the hotel. “It was unacceptable and contrary to our values, beliefs and how we seek to treat all people who visit our hotel.”
