EBONY.com takes a stroll down memory lane and remembers some of the most shocking moments of 2012:

Rihanna: Sweeter Than a Rice Cake? Maybe Not: Shots fired! Rihanna took to Instagram to poke fun at Chris Brown’s then (and maybe “now,” who knows?) girlfriend Karrueche Tran. Bad gal RiRi dressed a bag of rice cakes—a reference to Tran’s Asian heritage—in shades and bamboo earrings with the caption “Ima make u my bi**h,” a quote from the singer’s “Cake”…a song that featured Brown on the remix. Messy.

Who Do You Love, Steebie?: The messy love war between Joseline, Mimi and Stevie J. on Love and Hip-Hop: Atlanta was one of the most shocking storylines in reality TV history.  But wait… there’s more to come in 2013!

Nappy Roots? Gabby Douglas’s Hair “Backlash”: Gabby Douglas made history in the 2012 Summer Olympics, but a handful of haters chose to focus on the gymnast’s hair instead of her accomplishments. Despite the fact that most folks were cheering for the girl, a few media outlets chose to run with the “Black Women Attack Gabby’s Hair!” angle, claiming that sisters cared more about her ponytail than her balance beam game. Simply untrue.

TMI! Kanye Tweets About His Sexual Relations: Mr. West left nothing to the sexual imagination when he tweeted, “I just f**ked Kim so hard” after one of their “sessions.” Even though the tweet was deleted a few minutes after, the damage was already done.

Legitimate Rape?!? Legitimate FAIL: Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri really put his foot in his mouth in his attempts to fight against the legality of abortion, even in the case of rape: “[Pregnancy from rape] seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”  Um, WHAT? Luckily, Missouri voters found a way to shut that whole thing down in the polls this November, leaving Akin without a job in 2013.

Rihanna’s Risky Business: Rih Rih posted a picture of herself on her knees in Paris (yes, Chris Brown was also in the city at the time…sigh), but we aren’t really sure what she was doing down there.

Game Over for Tia Mowry: It was only three years ago that BET resurrected The Game, a dramedy that focused on the off-the-field lives of a NFL stars and their inner circles. We fell in love with Derwin and Melanie’s surreal and relevant relationship. And who could get enough of Jason’s penny-pinching ways and Tasha’s loud mouth? Sadly, star Tia Mowry unexpectedly announced her sudden departure from the hit series this year. The Game will never be the same.

No Words: Katt Gets Slap Happy: A three-wheeled police chase just wasn’t enough for the comedian. Just moments later, Target footage captured Williams slapping the taste out of a Target employee during what appears to be a heated argument. Here’s hoping he gets it together in the New Year.
