Spring offers a sense of revitalization, ans this is exactly what Ailey II has done with it’s 2012 New York Season that previewed on Tuesday night at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre studios in New York City. Standing as the farewell series for Ailey II’s 38-year Artistic Director Sylvia Waters, the team has created a cohesive view into the diversity of modern dance.

The evening’s performance included three pieces:  “Boulevard”—an intense  and athletic dance by choreographer Mina Yoo which references a a neighborhood where various cultures and creeds interact; “The Legacy of Inheritance” — a cerebral and modernized ballet that explores the power of bodies in motion with music by Zoe Keating and Stars of the Lid;  and Reference Point — a edgy piece that combines ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance set to music by Mio Morales by Ailey II Artistic Director Designate Troy Powell.

The Company’s two-week New York season will also feature three repertory favorites: “Shards by Donald Byrd”, “Echoes by Thang Dao” and “The Corner by Kyle Abraham”.
