The new docuseries Akil The Fugitive Hunter is headed to A&E Network. Narrated by The Wire’s Wood Harris, the series uses both live-action and animation to follow real life superhero Akil Muhammad. Our hero spends his days tracking the most notorious and dangerous criminals in South Central, Los Angeles. His sole purpose is to keep his beloved community safe.

For Muhammad, his work hits close to home. He grew up in South Central and watched the community suffer under the weight of drugs and crimes. After losing his best friend to vicious gang violence, Muhammad shifted his focus and is now one of the most successful bounty hunters in California. His mission is to keep “fighting to keep his community safe from gangsters, murderers, rapists and those who seek to hurt innocent people.”

Alongside Harris, Akil The Fugitive Hunter will have original music from multiplatinum singer and producer Ty Dolla $ign. The singer will also serve as executive music producer on the series.

Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive vice president and head of programming for A&E, said the new series “offers a fresh take on true crime storytelling through the lens of a real-life hero working to make his community safer and offering hope for future generations. With the incorporation of contemporary animation and Wood’s poetic narration, this gripping series takes a unique and timely approach to a genre capturing the attention of viewers more than ever before.”

Akil the Fugitive Hunter premieres July 13 at 10 p.m. ET with back-to-back episodes on A&E Network.
