Celebrities and guests gathered in New York City on Saturday night to honor and celebrate media for creating content that represents the lives and stories of the LGBT community.

The ceremony highlighted culture-changing moments in media from journalistic coverage to film and television.

Hosted by the bubbly Orange is the New Black star, Laverne Cox, the festivities were held at the Waldorf Astoria and welcomed guests such as Tamron Hall (Today show); actor and singer Alex Newell, Trans-Model Tracy Norman and many more.

Singer Mariah Carey was presented with the Ally Award by Lee Daniels and independent film ‘Tangerine’ received the ‘Outstanding Film’ award.  Shot entirely on an iPhone, the comedic drama centers on a working transgender woman stomping through the streets of L.A. in search of the pimp who broke her heart and was the talk of the 2015 film festival circuit and was met with rave reviews.
