Singer/songwriter Anthony Hamilton is using his voice to encourage voters to participate in the midterm elections on Nov. 6.

The Grammy Award winner released a powerful visual on Friday for his song “Love Conquers All,” which tackles many of the issues negatively affecting Black people and American society as a whole.

“How can we break the cycles / When being pointed at by a rifle,” Hamilton questions at the beginning of the song. “Can’t go to church in peace no more / In the movies someone might just go off,” he says referring to mass shootings such as the 2015 Charleston, South Carolina church massacre and the 2012 Aurora, Colorado theater shooting.

The scenes of the video switch between protests overseen by police in riot gear, a church guarded by armed security and students fleeing from a school. The emotional weight of the song and imagery of the video force the audience to think about gun control, police and education reform.

“‘Love Conquers All’ tackles tough, uncomfortable subjects like gun control, criminal justice reform, and prioritizing education,” Hamilton told ESSENCE. “An artist has two choices. Stay quiet or use your voice. Through his music, Anthony Hamilton continues to encourage folks to be part of the change we need in this country.”
