As a self-appointed digital diva, I’m 100% here for harnessing the power of technology for activism.

Never before have we lived in a time where we could communicate so much so quickly, even huddling up over even a hashtag to get things done.

But of all the things we as human beings could rally around, I cannot for the life of me figure out why it would be to boycott Beyoncé‘s latest video and Super Bowl 50 performance.

Yet that’s what a group of seeming yahoos did, sullying the platform of Eventbrite in the process.  Please read just a sampling of this so-called invitation to seek justice.

“Are you offended as an American that Beyoncé pulled her race-baiting stunt at the Superbowl?

Do you agree that it was a slap in the face to law enforcement?

Do you agree that the Black Panthers was/is a hate group which should not be glorified?

Come and let’s stand together. Let’s tell the NFL we don’t want hate speech & racism at the Superbowl ever again!”

So…..let’s break this down.

Beyoncé, by simply affirming her/her family’s Blackness, embracing the Black aesthetic and remembering (during Black History month no less), the Black Panther legacy, she has single-handedly broken America down to the compound. I am sure they also take offense at her love for the Jackson 5’s nostrils.

Further, by asking that brown folk NOT be shot down by overzealous police, she was somehow slapping the collective face of law enforcement.

It couldn’t just be that she is proud of who she is and is against police brutality, eh?

Luckily, another Eventbrite page has sprung up to combat the decidedly unworthy cause of this first gathering. The latter, dubbed “Get In Formation: Anti-Anti-Beyonce Protest Rally is aiming to ensure that Queen Bey, and other celebrities continue to leverage their platforms to encourage understanding and racial harmony.  It flies right in the face of the invisible lasso that America seems to want to secure around #blackgirlmagic.

I think you can tell which event I’ll say “yes” to.

Finally, as my sister wisely noted, if anyone does make it to the other event, here’s hoping someone will hit them off with some Black History knowledge instead of standing with them in tomfoolery.  And while they’re at it, a Photoshop tutorial couldn’t hurt because that invite looks a mess.
