Former Disney star Bella Thorne launched Filthy Fangs, a makeup line, on Saturday. Two eyeshadow palettes from the collection quickly drew comparisons to ones sold by Juvia’s Place, a Black-owned beauty brand. According to Page Six, a rep for the independently run company called the alleged copies “unacceptable.”
Chichi Eburu is the Nigerian-born creator of the cosmetic company, which launched in 2014. It became known for its pigmented eyeshadow palettes and affordability. When the swatches from Thorne’s company were posted, several makeup enthusiasts accused the shades of being carbon copies for nearly double the price.
So Bella Thorne has a makeup line that looks JUST like Juvia’s place for triple the cost… like straight ripped off. Colors and packaging look… I cannot. pic.twitter.com/ZGlHlh8K1n

“The public has spoken and we are disappointed Bella Thorne‘s makeup would try to steal from an independent black-owned brand that has no financial backing,” a rep said via email. “This isn’t the first time we have heard and seen mainstream media personalities steal from smaller brands. It’s unacceptable and disgraceful.”
These look suspiciously similar to Juvia’s place pallets AND they cost $50-$60. The nerve. https://t.co/k9qU5DCbtG

The 20-year-old did not back down from the controversy. “Shout out to anyone dumb enough to say that every makeup palette looks the same, bro,” Thorne said in an Instagram Stories video. “Every makeup palette looks the same, except for mine. If you think it does, you can go suck a f***king d**k.”
She later tried to place the similarities in the color and packaging on the two companies potentially having the same manufacturer.
I betu we have the same https://t.co/T8Zhegja0V suppose to look up every pallet ever made? How dare some1 else have a purple that looks like mine;) https://t.co/PVJG36mlQB

Despite the drama, Juvia’s Place said, “We are a happy place! We have chosen to look beyond this situation and continue to make our customers happy.”
