The beauty of art and innovation permeated through Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry as they hosted their 34th annual Black Creativity Gala, Saturday night.

Chaired by Cheryl Harris, senior vice president at Allstate Insurance Company, the Gala kicked off with hundreds of guests enjoying hors d’oeuvres and a cocktail hour while taking in the Juried Art Exhibition – a gallery which featured over 100 works from professional, amateur and dozens of student artists from around the country.

The evening was emceed by actor, writer and producer Chris Spencer who highlighted the importance of children exploring and expressing their voice through art and various creative mediums. Following a few of his remarks, The Chicago Children’s Choir moved the room with tunes that tapped into Black History and noted some of our great leaders.

Since its inception, The Black Creativity Gala program has invited students, teachers, families and the community to explore the rich legacy of contributions and achievements marked by African Americans in the STEM fields. All of this is done with the intent to further encourage interest and careers in the science and technology. The 2017 Black Creativity program turned its attention to focus on innovation and grooming the next generation of leaders.

While guests enjoyed a variety of food stations and danced away to the live sounds of Dante Hall, they also explored a number of the Museum’s exhibits such as Brick by Brick, Numbers in Nature: A Mirror Maze and even had some fun in the Innovation Studio.
