Anthony Mackie to Play Jimi Hendrix in Jimi Biopic

A few weeks ago, we told you that the André 3000-led Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is By My Side, is scheduled to hit theaters in June. However, Jimi’s estate isn’t backing Three Stacks’s version of events. (Which is weird, because he’s so perfect for the part. He doesn’t even need a wig.) Instead, the late guitar god’s representatives have chosen actor Anthony Mackie to shine as the funky string strummer in the upcoming film Jimi. (That’s right, somebody with no hair and no musical background.) The freshly announced film is scheduled to get rolling within the next few weeks. Unlike All Is By My Side, it will focus on the last nine days of Jimi’s life, and will also include bits of the late musician’s catalog, which you won’t hear in 3000’s rendition.

On his YouTube account, Lupe announced that the song supports the grassroots organization Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C), and that they will unveil even more collaborations tied to “Mission” later this year. Nice!

Kanye Signs Fan’s Fake Red Octobers

Bootleggers might be duping unsuspecting gullibles with shammy Red Octobers on these streets, but of course they can’t fool Kanye West. A fan passed along a pair of what he thought was an authentic pair of Yeezy’s hot-selling Octobers for him to sign. And although Ye scribbled on his John Hancock, he did inform the poor guy that his sneakers were fake. “These are not real though. You know that right?” (No cameras or paparazzi were harmed in the process.) Fake or not, those artificial Octobers are about to be worth some real dough with Kanye’s signature on them. (Homeboy just better watch out for those puddles.)
