Jay Z and Beyoncé reportedly have another baby on the way, but it won’t be a playmate for Blue Ivy. A source tells New York Post’s Page Six that the Carters have secretly been recording a collaborative opus they plan to drop surprise-style, like Beyoncé nearly a year ago. It’d be a fitting cap for a year of Bey-Z ups and downs: From their hugely successful On the Run tour to the infamous elevator incident with Solange to divorce rumors, there’s plenty for music’s first family to discuss. Jay has already recorded one album with Kanye West (Watch the Throne) and two with R. Kelly (Best of Both Worlds and Unfinished Business), and he’s got, like, a gajillion hits with his megastar wife, so let’s just hope this is one rumor that holds true.
Ghostface Says Supreme Clientele Sequel Will Be One of His Best Albums
Generally speaking, sequel projects suck. But Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt. II lived up to its classic predecessor, and his Wu-Tang bro Ghostface Killah feels he can do the same. As the 15th anniversary of Ghost’s Supreme Clientele approaches in January, the 44-year-old lyricist is waist-deep in crafting Supreme Clientele 2: Blue & Cream. “It’ll probably be one of the best albums I ever did,” says Ghost, adding that he’s awaiting features and sample clearances. “I get better at what I do. I learn… I know that I’m lethal.” Ghostface says he has yet to shop his new music to any record labels. In the meantime, Wu-Tang Clan’s sixth proper studio album A Better Tomorrow is set for release on December 2. Both sound like Ws to us.
Nas to Executive Produce Bishop Nehru’s Next Album
Nas is no grumpy rap elder statesman. The QB legend, who launched the indie imprint Mass Appeal Records earlier this year, is taking young spitter Bishop Nehru under his wing by executive producing the New York newbie’s next solo album. Esco’s career was two albums deep when the 18-year-old Nehru—fresh off of his collaborative project with MF Doom, NehruvianDOOM—was born, yet he proclaimed the barely legal MC “the future of music” at SXSW back in March. Aside from guiding Bishop’s next work, Nas has signed rappers Boldy James, Dave East and Fashawn to Mass Appeal, and has teased at his own new LP, plus a compilation project showcasing his signees.
