Before Dr. Dre started peddling headphones and Ice Cube played in comedic cop movies, the two hip-hop legends were members of the world’s most dangerous group, N.W.A. The iconic California crew’s story is being retold via Straight Outta Compton, a biopic dropping August 14, but in the meantime, Cube recently treated Sydney concertgoers to a trailer of the much-anticipated F. Gary Gary-directed film. The nearly two-minute teaser details N.W.A’s rapid rise, with Marcus Callender depicting Dre, Jason Mitchell playing Eazy-E and O’Shea Jackson Jr. portraying his real-life dad, Ice Cube. Black-ish Creator Calls Judd Apatow’s Bill Cosby Disses “Strangely Obsessive”
Bill Cosby’s legacy has been tarnished this year by rampant rape allegations spanning decades. Yet at least one detractor doesn’t think a man should be kicked while he’s down. Black-ish creator Kenya Barris intervened in director Judd Apatow’s Twitter takedown of the comedy legend, suggesting that the frequent digs at the man behind Cliff Huxtable’s iconic character are “strangely obsessive.”
“Dude. Enough. Not defending him AT ALL, but u do realize this borders on strangely obsessive, right?” Barris tweeted to Apatow early Tuesday morning (December 30), after the Knocked Up creator delivered one of many Cosby snubs. “I mean you’re a comedy god but you have an extremely narrowband and privileged scope for you’re powerful rage. He’s probably a monster… but as we have seen recently, nothing is true till it is & he’s thru. Done. Stop kicking. It’s like [you’re getting] some sick pleasure from watching a black man who meant so much for so many fall. Fuck him. Seriously. Just take equal shots at all the demons.”
Barris took the opportunity to criticize Apatow’s depictions of Black characters in his films and question his lack of awareness tweets for other hot-button issues like Ferguson, Eric Garner, the school attack in Pakistan and Donald Sterling. He signed off respectfully: “I want to say that you’re a genius, national treasure, maverick, & will probably now deservedly ruin my fledgling career.” Apatow responded via his own Twitter account with sarcasm. “From now on I am gonna try really hard not to be mad at rapists,” he wrote, questioning Barris’s criticism and insisting that he will not cease his sharp tweets. “Thanks for the advice. Now I can get back to the pool. Let’s all nap.”

I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”
