Prince Reigns the Charts with Two Top 10 Albums
Prince doubled up on the Billboard 100 this week, becoming the first artist in 10 years to debut two albums on the chart’s top 10 in one week. The Purple One moved 51,000 first-week copies his Art Official Age (his first album in three years), while his group 3rdEyeGirl’s rock-leaning PlectrumElectrum sold another 23,000 units, taking the No. 5 and No. 9 spots, respectively. The rare feat was last achieved when Nelly’s 2004 Sweat and Suit albums debuted in the top two slots. Great to see one of our true icons still making it rain on the charts.
Wiz Khalifa Parodies James Bond in New Video
Wiz Khalifa is no stealth stoner. But the Pittsburgh rapper channels one of the greatest fictional secret agents ever—Mr. 007 himself—in his new “James Bong” video. Without his main Bond girl, estranged wife Amber Rose (sad face), the Loch Ness bongster puffs and passes to himself in the grainy, Uzi-directed clip from his 28 Grams mixtape. Can Wiz just put out a whole James Bong-themed project, so we can get all of these marijuana puns, um, out of our system?
N.W.A Nominated for Rock And Roll Hall of Fame
N.W.A famously came straight outta Compton, yet might land itself in Cleveland as an inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The late ’80s gangsta rap pioneers who shook up the world—Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and Arabian Prince—are one of 15 nominees with the chance to enter the 2015 class of the prestigious cadre of music greatness. Sting, The Spinners, Green Day, Bill Withers and Nine Inch Nails are among the fellow music acts on the ballot, which is open to fan votes on RollingStone.com until December 9. Rock nod or not, these guys are legends (obvi), but still, we’ll have an attitude if they don’t make the cut. So get to casting those votes.
