First off, people have the right to vote for whomever they choose. We don’t have to understand it, but we should respect it.

Apparently, Comedy Central feels the same way so they did what some might consider the unthinkable. They went out and found six Black people (including one Muslim) who believe having Donald Trump as President of the United States is a good idea. The group explained their viewpoints on “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.”

Admittedly, they laid out some interesting reasons.

“He’s a gangsta,” said one participant in the conversation with host Wilmore. Another seems pretty confident that Donald Trump “is not going to make you a slave.”

Okay, we’ll buy that, seeing that he hasn’t said anything about support of human trafficking in his campaign so far.

Everybody’s trying to enslave you,” said another brotherman who supports Trump. “But the main important thing is how much I’m going to get paid while I’m in slavery.”

Editor’s Note: We’re really not sure why not being enslaved (which seems to negate payment on its face) is such a point of this discussion.  A brief poll of this newsroom confirmed that nobody had been in chains.

The discussion veers uncomfortably toward Trump having said in the past that he has good relations with “the Blacks,” as if the African Americans live in an alternate “separate but equal” universe. At least the panel did acknowledge that we’re pretty much in the same world and Trump has a learning curve to get over if he wants to reach more Black voters.

To his credit, Wilmore gets everyone to promise not to tell other Black people they voted for Trump until after the election. However, seeing that this has run on television and all, the secret’s kinda out there.
