The one question that has always lingered about Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston's tumultuous relationship was "Who started using drugs first?" While Brown was a solo performer with a bad-boy image when they first got together in 1991, Houston was pictured as the sweet, girl-next-door from a Christian home. But, in an exclusive interview with Matt Lauer on "TODAY," the R&B crooner reveals that he never used hard drugs before meeting Whitney and that she was using cocaine before they got together.
"No, that's not true. I didn't get high before I met Whitney." He added, "No, I– I — I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn't the one that got Whitney on drugs at all… How one could, you know, (say that I) got her addicted to drugs. I'm not the reason she's gone. …” Along with talking about his surprise at her sudden death, relationship with daughter Bobbi Kristina, and seven-year sobriety, Brown’s children and fianceé were also interviewed for the show. The two-part interview airs Wednesday and Thursday on NBC.
