Jessica Reid, the woman accusing radio personality Charlamagne Tha God of raping her at the age of 15, recently attempted to re-open a criminal case against him for the alleged assault.  Pleading guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Charlamagne admitted he threw the party where the incident took place while vehemently denying he was the culprit.

Due to the resurgence of the 2001 rape charge, the author’s previous interviews are now being dissected with a fine tooth comb, with him admitting in one undated recording that his first sexual encounter with wife, Jessica Gadsden, could technically be considered rape.

“I keep telling y’all. I’ve told y’all this over and over. It’s a lot of things guys did especially when we were young that were rape that we just didn’t consider rape,” he said during the interview.

“I’m married to my wife. Me and my wife dated for a whole year, she would not give me no p*ssy. Me and my wife hung out one Saturday night and she got sloppy drunk and passed out in my mama’s house and I got that p*ssy. She was f*cking me back and all that but she was really drunk. I asked her yesterday, ‘Yo, did I rape you the first time we ever had sex?’ And she goes, ‘I mean in hindsight, yeah…'”

Needless to say, Charlamagne received immediate backlash for the comment. In an effort to provide clarity, the MTV personality had his wife call into The Breakfast Club, where she claims she wasn’t raped by the father of her kids.

“Lenard, you need to learn how to tell stories. You shouldn’t have used the word rape first of all because the conversation we were having is about rape culture. The conversation we were having was you felt like it was ok for you to have sex with me while I was intoxicated. That’s a rape culture thing. That’s not rape. So when you asked me that question, I was hesitant to answer you because you used the word rape. But I mean, that’s not what went down. Like we both know what happened. I was not passed out. I was very coherent, like enough for me to lift up my hips so you could take my panties off. That’s what happened. You know that’s what happened. And the next morning, we had sex. That’s what I’m saying, your memory’s for sh*t. You don’t remember anything. And first kiss that night too.”

Charlamagne also apologized for his poor word choice and tone while discussing rape on his podcast, saying he’s matured in the years since.
