David Oyelowo is known for his powerful performances in dramatic films such as Selma, but he has recently committed to star in a live-action musical penned by Moonlight playwright, Tarell Alvin McCraney.

The project, titled Cyrano the Moor, will take from both William Shakespeare’s Othello and the classic French play Cyrano de Bergerac, according to TheHollywoodReporter.

The musical will tell the story of a large-nosed romantic who uses his words to help another man win over the love of his life. Oyelowo would produce along with his wife, English actress Jessica Oyelowo.

The Disney feature would be next in a string of live-action musicals from the studio, including 2016’s Beauty and the Beast and the upcoming Aladdin remake, starring newcomers Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Marwan Kenzari. Will Smith will also star in the role of the Genie, originally voiced by comedian Robin Williams.

The Oyelowo version distinguishes itself as unique in that it will not be based on one of Disney’s classic animations.

Partnering with the company shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as David Oyelowo and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o co-starred in Disney’s Queen of Katwe in 2016.

The 41-year-old star can next be seen in sci-fi thriller Chaos Walking and the Blumhouse production Only You.
