He sleeps at the office. He mans two radio shows most days of the week. He was also nominated for BET’s DJ of the Year award.

Meet Raashaun Casey, most often known as DJ Envy. The 27-year-old wunderkind pairs his mixtape mastery with his Hampton University business degree to forge the brand name he’s made synonymous with hot parties and even hotter music.

He’s also one hell of a contract negotiator. With shows on New York’s 105.1 FM and Sirius Satellite Envy’s Radio, and hosting duties on MTV’s Sucker Free Music Video Countdown, Envy is everywhere.

“Nobody ‘made’ me,” says Envy who was introduced to spinning by DJ Clue. “Some people came from TV, and TV made them; some people came to radio as jocks, and radio made them. I had a name be- fore radio. I came in as DJ Envy. This context has already allowed me to do what I do.”

He’s got his own company, Blok- management, and has worked with some of everybody, including Jay-Z. “The only person I didn’t get a chance to work with is Michael Jackson,” says Envy. He offers this bit of career minded advice to the masses: “It’s all about relation- ships and showing that you can outwork the next person. Sometimes you can have all the talents, but if you don’t put forth the effort, it ain’t gonna show.”
