Superproducer Dr. Dre is in the early development stages of a biopic about the late R&B singer Marvin Gaye, according to Variety.

There have been many failed attempts to create a movie about the life of Gaye including ones made by Lenny Kravitz and F. Gary Gray. Sources report that West Coast native secured rights to use the “What’s Going On” singer’s musical catalog from his estate including hits such as “Sexual Healing.”

Gaye died in 1984 after being shot by his father following a verbal spat at the age of 44.

Dr. Dre has previous movie credits, including the Oscar-nominated Straight Out of Compton, the NWA biopic about the start of gangster rap. The rap mogul appeared in the 2017 HBO docu-series, The Defiant Ones, where he can be creating a mix to the Motown legend’s “I Want You.”
