Beverly Hills Cop was one of the most successful comedy franchises of the 1980s and was just one of many films of the decade that propelled Eddie Murphy into superstardom.

New reports indicate that a fourth installment starring the comedic genius is in the works, according to TheJasmineBrand.

According to the site, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah approached Murphy about the project after receiving the green light from Hollywood heavyweight Jerry Bruckheimer.

The pair stated that they are still working on the script and will have a relatively modest $50 million budget.

Shooting will take place in Detroit, with the transplanted Axel Foley (Murphy) returning home and clashing with a hardened cop while tracking a criminal.

Tom Hardy (The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, The Vow) are in talks to join the film, but neither has been confirmed as of yet.

The series as a whole has been distributed by Paramount Pictures and has brought in a total of $735,534,503 in box office revenue since 1984.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 was originally announced in the mid-’90s, and then again a decade later, with Rush Hour‘s Brett Ratner initially lined up to direct, according to GameSpot.

Following a failed attempt at a television series based on the films, Paramount decided to produce another film with a currently unknown release date.
