Krista Campbell, the daughter of Mary Mary star Erica Campbell, opened up about being bullied in elementary school for her darkskin complexion on an episode of We’re The Campbells.

During the episode, Krista tell her mom she approached a group of kids to play in the fifth grade and they said to her, “we don’t want no darkies.” She said she walked away and cried. Erica shocked by the information says, “I know I can’t go back in time but I wish I could.” Elsewhere in the episode Krista speaks to her mom about young boys preferring lighter women and proclaims she’s “light-skinned so she wouldn’t know how it feels.”

The issues of colorism seem to be one of the main themes of the episode of new reality show. In a preview, Warryn Campbell, Erica’s husband, tells Joi, an artist he is producing for, that several record executives have passed on her because “she’s a little too light-skinned” and would prefer to sign a “white person that sings like [her].”

We’re The Campbells airs  Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST with an encore airing at 11 p.m on TVOne.
