BET has announced the 2018 Soul Train Award nominees, with “Avenue” singer, H.E.R., leading the pack with seven, followed by Bruno Mars and Cardi B with six each.
While several young voices could possibly walk away winners, two R&B icons will assuredly receive recognition, as Faith Evans and previous host, Erykah Badu, will receive special honors during the night’s ceremony.
Following Jill Scott, Brandy and SWV, Faith Evans will receive the Lady of Soul award, presented to Black women for their achievements and contributions to R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Gospel music.
“Faith Evans’ work throughout the decades speaks for itself, reads a statement from BET. “She has proven that her voice is powerful enough to move rooms. The star continues to shine and, while famously known as the First Lady of Bad Boy, she’s also the First Lady of Soul!”

Erykah Badu is set to receive the 2018 Legend Award, which should come as no surprise for R&B fans. The Dallas, TX singer not only birthed a new generation of artists – many of whom have been nominated – but has held down hosting duties for the show since 2015.
