Helmed by legendary director Allen Hughes, HBO’s upcoming four-part documentary series, The Defiant Ones, follows the unlikely partnership of Dr. Dre and co-founder of Interscope Records/producer, Jimmy Iovine. Filmed over a three-year period, the miniseries will offer in-depth views of two of the most towering music figures of our time. Extensive interviews with Dr. Dre and Iovine will take viewers through the nitty gritty of their careers. In addition, The Defiant Ones will also include interviews with Bono, David Geffen, Eminem, Nas, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen and will.i.am. The series will also feature never-before-seen footage of recording and writing sessions with Eazy-E, Stevie Nicks, N.W.A. and more.

Part One of the series will air July 9 and will open with Dr. Dre’s Compton beginnings. The series will then move across the country to find a young Iovine in Red Hook, Brooklyn, where he began working his way up in the music industry. The remaining episodes will air on successive nights, July 10, 11 and 12.

Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming, said of the forthcoming docuseries and Allen Hughes’ direction, “The Defiant Ones has everything you expect in a great story—drama and humor, tragedy and triumph. Allen Hughes takes you on a journey through some of the most important flashpoints of popular culture, and I’m delighted that we can bring this unforgettable saga to our viewers.”
