It was announced on Tuesday that James Earl Jones will join the distinguished list of celebrities who have won the prestigious Marion Anderson Award. The actor will be presented with the award in November for his lifetime of work in the arts. Honoring artists whose leadership has benefited humanity, previous winners include Harry Belafonte, Sidney Poitier, and Elizabeth Taylor.

The 81-year-old actor has never stopped working, and has recently appeared in smaller roles on television and the big screen. The award gala will take place at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. The award’s namesake, Marion Anderson, was the first Black soloist to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and was also a native of Philadelphia.
