Janelle Monae is always one with a message.

The savvy entertainer, actress and activist is now heading to Dillard University to deliver the commencement address for the graduating class of 2017!

“Janelle Monae’s significant accomplishments in music and particularly, film and STEM, both signature programs here at Dillard, along with her activism made her the ideal person to deliver a timely message to our graduates,” President Walter M. Kimbrough, Ph.D. stated.

President Kimbrough had his heart set on welcoming the Hidden’s Figure star to the university and pursued his intent for the past year.

“I believe this is her first commencement speech and we are very excited to see this day come.”

Monae is excited about the opportunity as well and expressed her gratitude via social media.

In addition to her entertaining talents, Monae has made a cultural mark by using her artistic platform to speak out against police brutality, social injustice, and civic rights.

Dillard University will hold its 81st Commencement on May 13, at 8 a.m. and will grant more than 160 undergraduate degrees, according to Dillard’s website.

We’re sure that this will be one electrifying address!
