Fans of The Carmichael Show were shocked and disappointed when the series wasn’t renewed this year, but fans can look forward to new projects from the mind behind the politically savvy series.

Jerrod Carmichael has just inked a deal with 20th Century Fox that is sure to get his supporters excited. The writer, producer and actor has committed himself to the studio for two years and will develop new projects for 20th TV alongside his longtime producing partner, Ari Katcher, via their Morningside Entertainment banner, according to TheHollywoodReporter.

The stand-up will write, produce and supervise other writers and potentially star in programming as well.

Jonnie Davis, 20th TV president of creative affairs, had this to say about working with Carmichael after the cancellation of his namesake series.

“The end of The Carmichael Show was a heartbreak for everyone at this studio, and Howard [Kurtzman, president of business operations at 20th] and I swore we’d be back in business with Jerrod if we had anything to say about it.

“Lucky for us, he said yes. This is a guy whose inspiration is Norman Lear and it’s not hard to see why—he speaks about what’s happening in the world and he gets people talking even if the subject matter is uncomfortable. Oh, and he’s also hilarious.”

The television exec concluded, “He’s an incredible talent and a ‘television savant’ and we’re thrilled he’s making 20th his exclusive home.”

Jerrod was last seen in JAY-Z’s “Moonlight” video, where he and Insecure actress Issa Rae star as Friends sitcom couple, Ross and Rachel.

Tiffany Haddish, Lakeith Stanfield, Lil Rel and Tessa Thompson also star.
