K. Michelle recently sat down with Jason Lee on the show, Hollywood Unlocked, and spoke about her former relationship with actor Idris Elba, and gave a reaction to his engagement to model Sabrina Dhowre.

The Soul Train Music Award winner spoke about meeting Elba at the 2013 ceremony, where she won for Best New Artist.  The singer said after doing press, she was approached by the Brit. “I was walking off the stage, and I hear this accent say, ‘K. Michelle, you’re beautiful.'”

Despite his efforts, the Memphis native told Lee she initially rejected Elba, “I told him to his face, ‘Your jeans too tight and your accent funny.'” According to her, the Luther star believed she was dating rapper Wale at the time because she showed up to an afterparty with him.

“I didn’t give [Elba] my number, my bodyguard did. He texted me and said ‘I’m going to this party,’ and I said ‘I’m going too.’ So I went to this party with Wale, but me and Wale are like brother and sister. [Idris] sent me a text that read ‘ouch but not out,'” K. Michelle recalled.

From there the two met up in Los Angeles and “the rest became history” as they had a private 8-month relationship in 2014.

After Lee shared a story about Elba allegedly dating multiple women, K. Michelle revealed that the actor told her, “He would never be committed to one woman.”

When the “Maybe I Should Call” singer found out about his engagement, she said she understood that “[Dhowre] had something that [she] didn’t have” and that Ebla wasn’t supposed to be the man she ends up with.
