K. Michelle has released the JAY-Z-inspired “Make This Song Cry.”

On the latest single off her forthcoming album The People I Used to Know, the Memphis songstress flips the Hova classic “Song Cry” sample. Built off Bobby Glenn’s “Sounds Like a Love Song,” K. Michelle sings of using music to mask her pain. “I’ma make this song cry,” she sings. “Never let a ni**a see me cry.”

“My new album @thepeopleiusedtoknow is really amazing,” she wrote on Instagram. “it took long enough huh? While you wait rock 2 my new single.”

This sample was not an accident; K. Michelle is an avid JAY-Z fan, and back in June she celebrated the release of 4:44 along with the rest of the world. “Thank God the heavens heard our cry,” she tweeted. “We get to listen to some REAL RAP LYRICS. Good music do something to me.”

“Make This Song Cry” is the third single from the upcoming album, following “Birthday” and the Chris Brown-assisted “Either Way.” The People I Used to Know is due out later this year, but until then check out “Make This Song Cry” below.
