Fans of both Gladys Knight and Kelly Rowland have often noted how similar they are in appearance, and it seems higher ups over at BET have also taken notice.

The Destiny’s Child diva has just been cast as the R&B icon in new BET series, American Soul, which will tell the story of the emergence and rise of Soul Train, created by the late Don Cornelius.

Billboard reports Rowland’s multi-episodic guest role will be crucial to the series, as Knight was one of the first performers that Cornelius booked during Soul Train’s early days. The Grammy winner will also record her own original version of Knight’s signature hit, “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

Knight shouldn’t have a problem with the casting choice, as she previously entertained the idea of having Rowland portray her in a major biopic.

“It’s no secret that I love my @kellyrowland,” said Knight on an Instagram post. “So many people have said that Kelly would be the perfect person to star in my biopic. What do you think, #Knights?! 😍❤️#stunning #kellyrowland.”

The 10-episode drama will explore Cornelius’ trials and tribulations as a young, ambitious and Black impresario in the 1970s with plenty of personal demons to conquer as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will also highlight how much Soul Train has influenced American culture, including fashion, dance and the mainstream acceptance of Black Music.
