Marvel Studio’s Black Panther is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. Musically, there would be no one more fitting than Compton wordsmith Kendrick Lamar to helm its soundtrack, and lucky for us, he’s doing just that.

The “DNA” rapper has produced and curated the soundtrack for the Ryan Coogler film, with help from Top Dawg label head Anthony Tiffith. It’s first single, “All the Stars,” is a collaboration between Lamar and his label mate SZA.

The previous Grammy winner and 2018 nominee provided a statement on his involvement via press release this morning, saying “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”

According to the release, Coogler reached out to Lamar personally to work on the project. The film stars a bevy of talented actors of color, including Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Angela Bassett, who has this to say on the the upcoming superhero flick.

“So, get ready, get ready. It’s going to be quite phenomenal.”
