We hope that it isn’t true, but according to TMZ, Lala and Carmelo Anthony have separated, putting the future of their marriage in doubt.
Take this with a grain of salt, but “sources” close to the couple told the celebrity site Lala recently moved out of the pair’s New York City home and into her own digs. While the cause of the rumored split is unclear, some are pinning the breakup on Melo’s difficult season with the Knicks and his possible exit from the team. The news comes just days New York Knicks’ president, Phil Jackson, said ‘Melo would be “better off somewhere else” next season.
“We’ve not been able to win with him on the court at this time,” Jackson said recently. “I think the direction with our team is that he is a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talents somewhere where he can win or chase that championship.”
Despite Melo’s professional turmoil, the couple is said to be keeping things classy and amicable like good, grown folks with a whole lot of history and love between them. The pair have a 10-year-old son, Kiyan, and TMZ notes Lala has no plans to uproot him from his life in the city.
Over on Twitter, a few folks joked about the possible break-up.

This isn’t the couple’s first difficult patch, and it might not be their last. Perhaps they’ll fix whatever’s not working in their relationship to have a stronger union moving forward, or maybe they’ll call it quits and just be awesome co-parents. Or maybe this is all just a rumor that will blow over soon. Either way, we wish them luck–no matter what happens.
