LeBron James is being open and honest in new HBO series The Shop, where he and other celebs let down their guard for some real conversation.

The NBA baller sat down with Vince Staples, Odell Beckham Jr., Jon Stewart and others to discuss his upbringing in Akron, Ohio and why he was hesitant to interact with White classmates once he was transferred to a mostly white, catholic high school. The new Laker explains that he was brought up to be distrustful of White people, who represented oppression in his young eyes.

“When I first went to the 9th grade…I was on some, ‘I’m not f*cking with White people.’ I was so institutionalized growing up in the hood, it’s like, they don’t f*ck with us, they don’t want us to succeed…I’m going to this school to play ball and that’s it, I don’t want anything to do with White people.”

Eventually, he was able to view all people as individuals, with best friend Maverick Carter explaining that everyone got along by the end of the school year.

The pair also cracked jokes on the first time James realized what a pantry was. Check out the clip below.
