In the wake of last night’s deadly Las Vegas shooting, Open Road films has canceled the red carpet premiere it had planned tonight for its new movie Marshall, director Reginald Hudlin’s latest film about a young Thurgood Marshall.
The red-carpet premiere was set to take place at TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, but citing “this day of national mourning,” event organizers have decided to forego press coverage and instead have turned the event into a private screening, according to TheHollywoodReporter.
“On this day of national mourning, we have decided to cancel tonight’s scheduled red carpet premiere of Marshall,” a spokesman for Open Road said. “Instead, tonight’s event will be a private screening of the film for the cast, filmmakers and invited guests. Our thoughts are with the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas, their families and all of those affected.”
The Las Vegas mass shooting occurred Sunday night at the Route 91 Harvest country music fest, with 58 confirmed dead and at least 500 injured, according to CNN.
It surpasses last year’s Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting as the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.
Marshall stars Chadwick Boseman as the young, charismatic NAACP trial lawyer who would go on to become the first African-American to be named a Supreme Court justice in 1967.
The film also stars Sterling K. Brown, Josh Gad and Kate Hudson.
