Music competition shows are being created at the speed of light, with every network eager to host its own star searching series. R&B sensation Mary J. Blige, "American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, and producer Antonina Armato will be headlining "Opening Act," the latest new addition to this reality series genre from E!. The three will scour the Internet in search of breakout entertainers who they ultimately give the "big shot" by opening for superstar artists such as Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, Rod Stewart and Gym Class Heroes.
TV personality Olivia Lee of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" will serve as the show's host, who will ambush the unsuspecting Internet performers. Those lucky few who are selected in each episode will undergo a rigorous period of artist bootcamp training lead by mentors from the music industry to prepare them for the big day. "Opening Act" is set to premiere on July 9th along with several other shows E! has lined up for the summer season.
