After receiving two Oscar nominations for her supporting role in Mudbound, Mary J. Blige is set to star in the horror thriller Body Camaccording to The Hollywood Report. The Malik Vitthal-directed film focuses on LAPD officers who are haunted after two White cops killed a Black boy and destroyed the body cam footage to cover-up the murder.

Blige will portray the role of an officer who is overcome with visions and seeks to find out the truth about the murder. The publication describes the film as a “tonal blend of Get Out and End of Watch.” It was written by Richmond Riedel with rewrites by Nicholas McCarthy and John Ridley.

This is the nine-time Grammy award winner’s first role as a leading lady. She has appeared in other movies throughout her musical career including Prison Break, Tyler’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself and Rock of Ages with Tom Cruise. Blige will also appear in Netflix’s upcoming film The Umbrella Academy.
